Here are a few stories from the past week that we're following.

Upgrades for the Amtrak Station

Could our humble train station in New Center be poised for a big upgrade? A recent $10 million grant from the Biden administration could kick off a larger $57 million project that would create a transportation hub at the site. Not only would it serve as a place for Amtrak travelers, but it would include options for Greyhound and Indian trails buses, bike share, Uber and Lyft, and taxis. MDOT says they could have an RFP out for the build in 2023, with an opening date of 2025. Detroit Free Press

Velodrome deflates

The wind storm last weekend had one noticeable temporary casualty in Detroit: early Monday, the Lexus Velodrome had collapsed. A back-up generator failed to come on, leaving the popular cycling arena deflated. They're working on assessing the damage and will reopen when ready. MLive

Five apartment buildings along Seward Avenue in New Center are in varying stages of renovation, bringing over 230 apartments online. Two are available now, while some will open in April and another by the end of next year. These were mainly empty when renovations started, and will be leasing for slightly lower than downtown prices. Detroit Free Press (paywall)
