Two more downtown buildings for sale
Just on the other side of the Lodge west of downtown, two high-rises are for sale. The 11-story building and 21-story tower sit at 1200 Sixth Street. There's plenty of surface lots around that area, but not much more. But they sit right between downtown and Corktown, and they've been featured in Batman V. Superman. No set asking price for these, but could be a great place for a hotel or more residential. Crain's
Malcolm X home gets historic recognition
On Tuesday, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced that a home in Inkster where Malcolm X once lived has listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Malcolm X lived in the home with his brother and family after being released from prison in Massachusetts in 1952. This was the start in his rise to prominence in the Nation of Islam. This designation helps save this home, with hopes of revitalizing it and turning it into a museum run by Inkster-based nonprofit Project We Hope, Dream, & Believe. The group has purchased additional property around the home. Detroit News
Fundraising for Taqueria El Rey
A fire spread through Taqueria El Ray on Saturday, destroying much of the beloved Southwest restaurant. A GoFundMe was organized, and the $20,000 goal was quickly surpassed (coming in at over $31,000 currently). Many are hoping for a quick rebuild of the family-owned restaurant, which has been a staple in the neighborhood for over 25 years. Eater Detroit
