A prominent building on a busy block in West Village is now up for sale. Owned by Banyan Investments, 1400 Van Dyke - home to Detroit Vegan Soul, Red Hook Coffee, Live Cycle Delight, and Fauno Floral - is listing for $5,995,900.
The building was rehabbed by Banyan in 2016, bringing 16 modern market-rate apartments to the popular neighborhood next to Indian Village. Banyan owns many properties in the neighborhood, including the rehabbed bank building on Van Dyke and Kercheval, and the Saint Charles Residences, which has new condos plus renovated units in an old school building in nearby Islandview.
West Village has seen increased real estate prices over the past five years, and more development is underway. Parker Durand, a new apartment building that will bring 92 market-rate and affordable units to the corner of Van Dyke and Kercheval, is finishing up construction. New streetscaping efforts along Kercheval are also construction.
1400 Van Dyke sits next to the Parkstone Apartments on Agnes Street, and it's in an Opportunity Zone. It would be nice to see the larger corner storefront filled, as plans have come and gone over the past few years without a permanent tenant.
