Yesterday, the city celebrated the completion of the renovation of Zussman Park in Russell Woods. Improvements include a new fitness zone, picnic shelters with grills, new basketball courts, a walking loop, new playground equipment, and a new mural. Renovations totaled $850,000 and were part of the plans that came from the engagement process through the Strategic Neighborhood Fund.
Additional plans for Russell Woods include streetscaping along Dexter, demolition and renovation of deteriorating homes, and a new pop-up retail space made of shipping containers at the corner of Dexter and Tyler. The initiative, run by the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, will encourage entrepreneurship in the neighborhood. Construction will start this fall, with the pop-up opening in the spring. Artist DABLS will add an art installation to the development.
