A new mixed-use development is coming to Bagley and 16th, across from HoneyBee and close to Michigan Central. The $22.8 million project received a $3.7 million Michigan Community Revitalization Program performance-based loan today, and the city of Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority was approved for $647,991 in state tax capture to reimburse for eligible brownfield-related activities.
The Brooke, named after developer Clifford Brown's daughter, will bring four ground-floor retail spaces, 78 mixed-income apartments, and some surrounding improvements like sidewalks and public seating to Southwest Detroit.
"We are exceptionally excited to bring The Brooke on Bagley which will include workforce housing to Hubbard Richard and Mexicantown. This is such an amazing neighborhood, and we are grateful for the relationships and partnerships we have developed with the Hubbard Richard Residents, community organizations, and our funding partners,” said Brown, Woodborn Partners President and Chief Executive Officer. “This represents the fourth neighborhood within the city of Detroit in which Woodborn has made an investment and we remain committed to the state of Michigan, the city of Detroit and its neighborhoods.”
Woodborn has also been involved with the Scott in Brush Park, the Coe in West Village, and Pullman Parc in Elmwood Park.
The land was previously owned by the city, who put out an RFP for the property four years ago.
The development should be completed in 2024.
