Over the past decade, many new mixed-use and residential buildings have been built in greater downtown Detroit. But true office buildings are few. The new Little Caesars World Headquarters opened on Woodward in 2019. The new Hudson's site under construction will include significant office space. But on Wednesday, officials opened the new 21-story Huntington Tower on Woodward across from Comerica Park.
The project was announced in 2018 as the headquarters for Chemical Bank. Next there was a merger to TCF, and finally Huntington Bank.
Floors two through eleven are for parking, while the rest are for 750 employees, many of whom will have a hybrid work schedule. Next month, a Huntington branch will open in the lobby on the main level.
The building has a rooftop terrace and private outdoor access on the 19th floor. Acoustic privacy has been insured inside, and the space provides both private and collaborative office space. Many of the collaborative spaces overlook the city along Woodward Avenue. Natural light comes in through the open work spaces.
“This investment is more than a beautiful building in the heart of downtown Detroit,” said Steve Steinour, Huntington’s president and CEO. “It’s another symbol of our strong commitment to the community, as well as our dedication to Huntington colleagues across southeast Michigan. After a difficult few years due to the pandemic, this building will serve as a place for colleagues to gather again and connect, collaborate and innovate, and work together to best serve our customers and communities.”
