New construction broke ground just a block away from the Little Caesars Arena last week. Mariners Inn is building a $24 million, 65,000-square-foot substance abuse treatment facility called The Anchor at Mariners Inn, which will double its capacity.
Cinnaire Solutions is working with Mariners Inn on the project and Ethos Development Partners consulted with the development. The Anchor will be located next to the current Mariners Inn at Ledyard and Cass. The old building will be used for expanded services such as a medical and mental health clinic, an emergency shelter, and it will have a new kitchen.
The new building will have 40 fully-furnished recovery housing apartments and 44 fully-furnished permanent supportive housing units. The anchor will also have private counseling and therapy, career education and job training services, a computer lab, help with small-business ventures, a fitness area, and retail space.
The expanded residential units and services will allow the group to serve women as clients for the first time.
“This will be a nurturing space that transforms the way people are cared for and treated and builds on the revitalization and growth we are seeing around us,” said David Sampson, chief executive officer of Mariners Inn. “This new facility will help us serve even more people and save even more lives, helping us to make a true difference in our community.”
Funding was helped with donations, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, HOME and Community Development Block Grant funding through the City of Detroit Housing & Revitalization Department, as well as other financial institutions and community organizations.
The new building is expected to be completed at the end of next year.
