Here are a few of the stories we're reading this week:
MDOT's open house
MDOT hosted the first of a series open houses this year in Detroit to show the public what was going to happen with 375. They have a new video showing a fly-over of the new layout, which has four lanes of traffic going into it. Overall, the plans will turn the freeway into a boulevard, opening up room for development in the area and ideally, building a stronger connection between Greektown, downtown, Lafayette Park, the Riverfront, and Eastern Market. New owners for Fairlane
Last year, new owners bought the struggling Fairlane Mall in Dearborn. This year, we have another set of new owners. Kohan Retail Investment Group has bought the mall for $52 million. They tell Crain's they'd like to bring in more Class A tenants. Last year, the previous owners had plans for a mixed-use development, although nothing materialized from that. Crain's Detroit Business
Parade delay
In 2021, the Parade Company announced plans to buy and redevelop the Brodhead Armory on Detroit's East Riverfront. They would rehab the front of the building and build a large extension on the back. It's an expensive endeavor, and the city has extended the deadline for them to buy the building. President and CEO Tony Michaels said it was a "too aggressive" timeline when they first announced the plans. The new deadline is September. It's unknown how much of the $45 million they've raised so far. The company would like to complete the project in late 2026 or 2027. Detroit Free Press
