The Detroit Grand Prix returns to downtown on June 2 after an extended stay on Belle Isle. Grandstands and pedestrian bridges have been set up in preparation for the big event. Here's what to expect if you're heading downtown this week. 

When:

The Grand Prix runs June 2-4. Friday, June 2 is Free Prix Day, where fans can watch free in the grandstands on a first come, first serve basis. 

Route:

Detroit Grand Prix

The Grand Prix will run down Jefferson, behind the Ren Cen, up and then down Franklin, up Rivard and back to Jefferson.  

Road Closures:

The roads around the race will start to close Wednesday night. The city announced these closures leading up to race day.

  • I-375 is only accessible to those with permit parking or traveling to Canada beginning 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 to Monday, June 5. All other motorists should exit at Lafayette Blvd.
  • Inbound Lodge exit to Jefferson Avenue (under Huntington Place) will be closed beginning the evening of Wednesday, May 31 to Monday, June 5.
  • Jefferson is local traffic only from Orleans to Rivard with total closure at Rivard.
  • Closures and lane restrictions are scheduled for Bates, Atwater, Franklin (Rivard to St. Antoine), Randolph and Beaubien.

Parking:

The Ford Garage on Jefferson will be closed. The city will be opening spots in an Eastern Market parking garage for $5. There is ample garage, street, and surface lot parking downtown.

Transit:

The People Mover will be running during the Grand Prix from 5 a.m. to midnight.

If you want to take the Qline in, the city suggests lots and garages around Wayne State.

Many buses will be rerouted for the race, including:

  • Grand River (3) - Board bus on Congress between Brush and St. Antoine.
  • Jefferson (9) - Board bus on Larned between Rivard and St. Aubin.
  • Dexter (16) - Board bus on Larned in front of Financial District People Mover Station.

Reroutes are also expected for Van Dyke/Lafayette (5), Gratiot (6), Russell (40), Chene (52) and Cadillac/Harper (67).
