If you've been out on the Detroit River this summer, you might have noticed all the work going on past the Ambassador Bridge. Some of the deck has gone up at the Gordie Howe International Bridge, and now the U.S. tower has reached its full height.
The U.S. tower is 722 feet, which rivals the Ren Cen (727 feet). The Canadian tower will be completed this fall, and will be the tallest structure in Windsor.
The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority and Bridging North America report that the jump form system, which gave workers an enclosed environment, will be disassembled over the next four weeks. The system includes platforms, equipment, and materials, and is adorned with a mural from Detroit artist Roberto Villalobos. The team is looking for a permanent location for the artwork.

In addition to three lanes each way for vehicular traffic, the Gordie Howe International Bridge will have a multi-use path for bikes and pedestrians. The bridge is expected to open in 2025.
