A few words from Dan Gilbert

Detroit's most prominent real estate developer was interviewed at an event last Friday for the Detroit Economic Club. While he talked more about his businesses, there were a few development takeaways. He again pushed for more regional transit in metro Detroit, citing the recent success of the Qline. When the streetcar first started running, he was skeptical because of all the empty seats. But more people are riding now, and we need more systems in place for people to get around. When asked about the future of the Renaissance Center, he said he's seen some early plans and they'd like to keep as much of it as they can. He also said we need to utilize more of our Riverwalk in that area. Detroit News Local 4

A new shed in Eastern Market

Eastern Market Partnership closed on a 45,000-square-foot building last week. It's located near Mack Avenue and will serve as a refrigerated warehouse for local food distributors. It can store goods not sold during market times. The new building could help free up event space in other sheds. Renovations should start next year and the building could be open in 2026. More on Michigan Avenue

MDOT held a meeting on Thursday to hear concerns from residents and business owners over the reconstruction of Michigan Avenue. Plans call for reducing traffic lanes to one lane each way, with a transit lane in the middle and extended sidewalks to make it easier for pedestrians. While some people are concerned over the removal of the bricks along the street, which would take away some historic charm of the city, business owners are concerned about the disruption that two years of construction could cause to the neighborhood.
