Earlier this month, Detroit City FC officially commenced work on AlumniFi Field, the team's new home at the former site of Southwest Detroit Hospital.

The $150-million, 15,000-seat stadium will be Detroit's first soccer-specific stadium, and is billed as Michigan's only privately-owned major sports venue.

“As a club built from the ground up by Detroiters, this moment reflects years of work, belief and investment from our supporters and partners,” said Detroit City FC co-founder and chief executive officer Sean Mann. “Breaking ground on AlumniFi Field brings us one step closer to creating a forever home for our supporters and a development that reflects the pride, history and future of this city.”

HOK's design for the stadium calls for art installations, historic markers, and other signage regarding the legacy of Southwest Detroit Hospital, which was the first hospital in Detroit to accredit African American doctors and nurses when it opened in 1973.

The project is a also component of a broader $200-million development that will also include a 421-car garage and a 104-unit residential development with 76 affordable units.

Completion is expected in 2028.
