Here are a few of the stories we're reading this week:
Cadillac Square...not quite yet
One of the more eagerly awaited developments that hasn't started yet is Bedrock's new development at Cadillac Square. It was once referred to as the Monroe Blocks; last year, preliminary plans were released. We thought they might have started construction by now, but we'll have to wait a little longer. Bedrock is asking the Detroit Economic Growth Corp. for a "short extension" to start construction. We should know more about how long that might be and possibly some clearer plans later this month. The next phase of Hart Plaza
Earlier this year, repair work was completed at the Dodge Fountain at Hart Plaza. Now, more improvements are in store. Work should finish by Memorial Day next year and will include ADA accessibility to the Gateway to Freedom monument, replacing stairs, better lighting, more green space, and overall repairing of paved surfaces. The city is using federal funding for the project. There's not enough currently for a complete overhaul of the plaza, but planning is underway for future updates. Detroit News
Perfecting on 7 Mile
Could we see more construction happening at the corner of Woodward and 7 Mile? City Council recently approved rezoning for the site, which will include 600 surface parking spots, an outdoor amphitheater, coffee shop, bookstore and more. We'll believe it when we see it. The project started 20 years ago; it originally included a larger church, residential, and a parking deck. They're aiming for a March 2026 completion date. Detroit Free Press
