Here are a few of the stories we're reading this week.

Detroit News moving to New Center

This fall, we learned that the lease was up for both the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press, who had both set up shop in the Federal Reserve Building downtown. While the Free Press is moving to a former We Work space downtown, the News is moving to an Albert Kahn building over in Tech Town. We Work also leased this space before, but moved out in 2022. The building at 6001 Cass Ave. is owned by the Platform. It joins other media outlets in the area, with Daily Detroit and Outlier in Tech Town, Bridge Detroit in Chroma on East Grand Boulevard, and Detroit Public Television soon moving into Milwaukee Junction (thanks to Jer from Daily Detroit for connecting the media dots on this one). Let's talk about the People Mover expanding again

We'll soon hear more about a possible expansion of the People Mover. Detroit Transportation Corp. will be running a study in early 2025  for both improvements and an expansion. The study would take into consideration expanding into nearby neighborhoods like Corktown, Midtown, Eastern Market, and Lafayette Park. The study could also look at possible new signage and connections to other public transportation. Today, the board chose AECOM, who's also doing the 1-75 cap study, to lead the project. We'll have more when we hear more. Crain's Detroit Business (paywalled)

New development for LGBTQ+ seniors opens in Ferndale

The Raymond E. Shepherd House opened last week in downtown Ferndale, with 53 affordable units for LGBTQ+ seniors. The new building is meant to be a place where people can be their true selves and find community as they age. The development is named after a prominent LGBTQ+ resident who died in 2018 and it's been in the works for about 10 years. Fox 2 Detroit
