Here are a few of the stories we're reading this week:
An Apple store is coming to Woodward
We don't have an opening date yet, but an Apple store is being built out in downtown Detroit. In the fall, Crain's reported that job postings had gone up for the location. Last week, Daily Detroit broke the news that a website was up for the new store, "Coming Soon." It will be on the same block as the Shinola, close to the new Hudson's development (as seen above). We'll have more as soon as we here more confirmations of an opening date.
And Gardner White is opening downtown
This spring, a Gardner White furniture store will open across from the new Hudson's development. It will take over the retail space that was home to the Under Armour store. It will cover three stories and 15,000 square feet with home decor and furniture, which is much needed downtown. Detroit News
New apartments on Livernois
Speaking of furniture stores, the site of the former Fred's Unique Furniture & Antiques is set to be converted to apartments on Livernois south of 8 Mile. The building would be demolished and a three-story building with 50 apartments would go up. Developers believe with the recent streetscaping and the bustling retail scene, the area is ready for more housing. Incentives including Brownfield funding will be needed for the project. Developers are hoping to start the site work this summer and complete the project in 2027. Detroit Free Press
Finally a redevelopment for the Dearborn Hyatt Regency
The vacant Dearborn Hyatt building near Fairlane Mall has a new owner with new plans for the hulking building. The owner plans to convert the building into both a 216-room hotel and residential, bringing 258 apartments online. The Dearborn Planning Commission approved plans last week, which also includes a restaurant and other amenities. The building has had a number of owners since the hotel closed in 2018; it's now owned by Willowbrook LLC. Crain's Detroit Business
