Here are a few of the stories we're reading this week.

Pre-leasing at the old Joe Louis Arena site

The Residences at Water Square, a 25-story high rise under construction at the old Joe Louis Arena site, have started pre-leasing. The building will have nearly 500 units available and they're expecting to be completed in February. Residents will have access to a gym, a pool, and a rooftop lounge. They are not disclosing rates yet, but with those views and nicer finishes, they will be on the higher end. Crain's Detroit Business Residences at Water Square

Where does the QLINE stand in regional transit?

We can agree that the QLINE has improved its service since launching in 2017. It's getting closer to its 15-minute goal for each stop. It has prioritized traffic lights now, increasing its speed. There are dedicated traffic lanes at LCA. But where does it fit into Detroit's overall regional system? It runs 3.3 miles up and down Woodward. While the population around the area has increased, it's still not that dense. It doesn't connect to major bus stations. Is it worth thinking about expanding the line up Woodward or east/west into Corktown or down Jefferson? Should we invest more money into our bus system? Bridge Detroit explores its place in our limited regional transit system.

Something in the air

What's likely been on most people's minds in the region this week is the poor air quality. The smoke from wildfires in Canada left the air unhealthy to hazardous around Detroit and much of the Midwest. It's been difficult for many of us, especially those with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Considering the state of the fires, we can expect the same through the summer. Planet Detroit digs into the issue and offers tips and insight in a survival guide.
