Here are a few of the stories we're reading this week.

It's happening at the Fisher Body Plant

A plan was announced two years ago to redevelop the Fisher Body Plant (visible from the I-75/I-94 interchange) into over 400 apartments, plus retail and co-working space. There's been visible work happening at the site lately. As of now, crews are cleaning out contaminants and asbestos, with construction expecting to start in the fall. This $142.1 million project has layers of financing still being finalized. It's the largest of many projects happening in the Milwaukee Junction neighborhood, along with the PBS building conversion and the Piquette Flats residential project. Why the Detroit People's Food Co-op is more than just a grocery store

The Detroit People's Food Co-op opened on May 1 in the North End, giving the neighborhood access to healthy, fresh food, along with an opportunity to be a member/owner. The co-op sells a variety of items, including many locally-made brands and food grown at local farms. It's a win all-around for the local economy. Bridge Detroit and Detroit Public TV share why it's so important to this neighborhood and the people of the city. Bridge Detroit

An expanded vision for transit in Detroit and Michigan

How could we serve our communities better with transit?
