United Artists Building gets additional $2 million in state funding

In 2017, Olympia Development announced the renovation of the historic United Artists Building at 150 Bagley. Four years later, could we see construction start soon? This week, the Michigan Strategic Fund approved another $2 million to to the project's loan. The plan is to convert the building into 148 apartments and demolish the historic theater. Olympia is working with Bagley Development Group on the project. The Ilitches have owned the property since 1997.

30 townhomes and community greenspace could soon be coming to Mack and East Grand Boulevard in Islandview. The project is a collaboration between Cinnaire Solutions and GenesisHOPE Community Development Corp. A second phase of the development would bring 30 more apartments and retail space. According to Crain's, rents for two to three bedroom townhomes would fall between $769 and $1,083 a month.

It's part of a national program. According to a press release: "The Built for Zero initiative helps communities deploy data-driven methodology to reduce veteran and chronic homelessness. The national initiative allows communities to drive improvements to their local homeless response system, helping people experiencing homelessness receive access to housing and assistance."

Greenways connecting Southeast Michigan

We're excited to see the work being done around Detroit with the Joe Louis Greenway and Detroit Riverfront. Soon, the region could be connected with water and bike trails from lower Lake Huron to Lake Erie. Many trails already exist in the longer pathway, but this initiative would further strengthen connections for biking and walking in the region. The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan is currently raising funds for the project.
