Here are a few of the stories we're reading the first week of September.
Next year for the Monroe blocks
We'll keep waiting for the Development at Cadillac Square. The long-delayed project received an extension from the Downtown Development Authority last week; Bedrock has until May to start construction on it. They're reconsidering the music venue part of the project, with the upcoming Music Hall expansion also downtown. The first iteration of this project "broke ground" in late 2018, but that construction never started. Bedrock introduced new plans last year, which include an office building, apartments, a market hall, and entertainment. Detroit Free Press
More planned with the soccer stadium
Detroit City FC is planning to build a soccer stadium at the site of the old Southwest Detroit Hospital. But there's more than just a stadium. Four or five new buildings near the stadium would include housing and retail. Method Development is leading the project. They're taking inspiration from European stadiums, where people spend more time in the surrounding area. DCFC continues to acquire land in the area for this project; they currently have over 15 acres. Crain's Business Detroit (paywalled)
Updates on developments around the city
Outlier Media looked into the status of six smaller developments that received tax breaks from the city and/or state. These include the larger Piquette Flats (currently under construction); Coda in Brush Park, which has a long history, but the developer plans to break ground this fall; the nearby Edmund Place townhouses (TBD); the Danish Brotherhood Hall in Woodbridge (TBD); and more.
