The developer sales at the downtown Detroit, Fort Shelby Residences are reaching a conclusion, with just 9 residential condominiums of the original 53 still available for purchase. Sabra Sanzotta, co – owner of the developer’s listing brokerage, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, states that “the last 9 units we have to show are truly the best of Fort Shelby. The reference to a classic novel from the 1920’s, could be apropos, as this grand hotel can trace its origins to 1917, and is currently on the National Register of Historic Places. It started out as a 10 – story hotel, designed to serve the growing number of people coming for jobs and business in the rapidly expanding, industrial city of Detroit. By 1927, the hotel owners realized they needed to expand in a big way, so they hired a Detroit legend, Albert Kahn, to design a new tower that more than doubled the size of the hotel. That tower is the current site of the Fort Shelby Hilton Doubletree Hotel, on floors 1 – 10. Above the hotel, with their own elevator and concierge, are the upscale and spacious Fort Shelby Residences, on floors 11 – 21.
The condo layouts and floorplans are significantly larger in size than the average Detroit condos sold in the past 12 months.
