Another large Corktown development will start construction this week. The Godfrey Hotel, led by Oxford Perennial and Hunter Pasteur, plans to break ground along Michigan Avenue just outside of downtown Detroit.
The hotel will have 227 rooms, an indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge called I|O, with views of downtown Detroit and Corktown, a ground-floor restaurant, a lobby bar, a fitness center, and a 5,500-square-foot grand ballroom that can host events of more than 350 guests. The hotel will have a soft brand affiliation with Hilton’s Curio Collection, according to a press release.
The interior, designed by the Gettys Group, will feature neutral backdrops with rich color accents in the furniture and fixtures. Expect terrazzo floors, warm wood tones, and sculptural lighting inside. (See more renderings in the gallery above.)
“We view Detroit as a compelling hotel investment market given all the existing and new demand being created by the dozens of recent and forthcoming corporate relocations and expansions downtown,” said Matthew Kalt, vice president of Oxford Capital Group, LLC.
Corktown has seen a slew of new developments introduced since Ford announced its redevelopment of Michigan Central Station.
The same group is leading the larger mixed-use project across from the old Tiger Stadium, which will include a seven-story building with 188 apartments and retail, plus seven townhomes, and a new parking garage.
