It's not often Urbanize Detroit features houses for sale, but once in a while, a house demands attention. Often people go to neighborhoods like Boston-Edison, Indian Village, or Palmer Woods to see architecturally impressive homes in the city. This unique stone house is off the beaten path (or near Grand River and Telegraph) and it's worth a look.
I visited the house before, when I wrote about it for Curbed Detroit in 2016. It sits in a residential wooded area in Old Redford. The stone exterior is reminiscent of a fairy tale, with beautiful stonework framed by blue trim and a clay tile roof. Inside, details have been cared for in this 1924 home: leaded glass, built-ins, a huge stone fireplace, original fixtures, a butler's pantry, intricate tile and millwork.
"22322 Roxford in Detroit is more than just a house, it's a piece of history waiting to be cherished by its next caretaker," says Christian Draheim, O'Connor Real Estate. "With stunning craftsmanship and a one-of-a-kind charm, this home is truly a gem in the City of Detroit's crown of beautiful old and historic homes."
The Craftsman home has 2,800 square feet, with three bedrooms, two baths, and a functional but unfinished basement. It sits on an acre of land and includes a garden and a drive-thru garage. Craig Brown of @properties, co-listing with Draheim, says, “This house has the feel of an up-north getaway while being in the heart of the city! Completely one of a kind.”
The house will list for $430,000, which would be a pretty high price for the neighborhood. Showings will start February 2. Find more photos in the gallery above and the listing below.
