A new housing development in the Riverbend neighborhood of Detroit recently completed construction. Xavier Square will offer 14 apartments at "deeply affordable" rates to those with disabilities.

Project-based vouchers will ensure that residents will pay no more than 30% of their income on housing and utilities, through the Detroit Housing Commission. Xavier Square has 12 one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom units.

The project is led by Nova Development. Central City Health will offer supportive services for qualified residents.

"We are deeply committed to empowering individuals and fostering opportunities for every Detroiter," said Andrew Creamer of Nova Development. "The City has been a steadfast partner in this endeavor, and we are truly grateful for its significant investment and unwavering support throughout this project. Nova is privileged to be part of Detroit's growth and is proud to contribute to the community by providing quality, affordable housing for its residents."

Funding for the $5.4 million project came from a variety of sources, including $1.8 million in federal HOME funds, $179,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding through the city’s Housing & Revitalization Department (HRD), funding through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, and land purchased through the Detroit Land Bank Authority.
