Since last spring, something has been missing in the Detroit media landscape. It's been difficult to find one place for news about development, commercial real estate, buildings, architecture, green space...urban planning in general...and a place where you can chat with others about your ideas. If you've been missing that kind of outlet, you're in the right place. Welcome to Urbanize Detroit!
It's a good time for this. If you're like most of us around the region, you haven't been downtown or to different parts of the city as much as you used to. While we've been safe inside our homes for the better part of a year, construction has kept moving in Detroit. Many projects that were in the planning phases pre-COVID have come out of the ground. We're here to fill you in on what to look for as you make your way around the city.
Urbanize, which launched in Los Angeles in 2015, was born from a passion for cities and how they evolve through urban planning. Atlanta's was the first new city site to launch. Expect more from cities around the country soon, where a few other former Curbed editors have signed on.
Don't expect Curbed Version 2.0. This is a different site. But for people who want intel on the built environment, please bookmark and share this site. We want to hear from you. We want to hear your comments. We want to know which developments you want us to cover. And, if you have a building you're fixing up, let us know!
We'll bring all the big news - Hudson's, Amazon, Michigan Central Station. But we want to bring you stories of smaller mixed-use buildings that you'll see in your own neighborhoods, like our first story about Steelhaus Detroit in Corktown. And we're not leaving the suburbs out. We'll bring stories of relevant developments past 8 Mile.
This site is new, so give us some grace as we work out any issues that arise. Some of the first stories might not be the newest news, but we want to get you up to speed on what's happening.
