Construction is starting up again on a busy corridor north of Detroit. Expect various lane closures through fall along Woodward Avenue between 8 Mile and 696 in Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge.
When completed in the fall, the project will bring sidewalk improvements, bike lanes, bus islands, improvements to curbs and drainage systems, and a repaving of Woodward.
Currently, the interior lanes of Woodward are closed, but the turnarounds in the middle remain open. Certain lanes will be closed depending on the work being done. For this construction:
- During daytime hours, 5 a.m.to 8 p.m., expect 2-3 lanes open.
- During nighttime hours, 8 p.m. to 5.a.m., expect 1-2 lanes open.
The project is meant to improve walking conditions along the busy stretch of road, while increasing accessibility.
The Woodward Moves project is funded by Michigan Department of Transportation), City of Ferndale, City of Pleasant Ridge, a Transportation Alternatives Program grant, and Southeast Michigan Council of Governments. Preliminary work started on the project last fall.
