Ford employees start moving into Michigan Central Station

Ford marked a major milestone in its work with Michigan Central. The company celebrated this week as its Model e (electric vehicles) and Integrated Services started to the move into the Station.

The teams will take up two floors of the building, while another floor will open by the end of the year for employees who can reserve space to work there. 

The historic building is also home to Code Next, a Google education program, which moved in this summer.

Yellow Light, an eastside coffee shop, will soon open a second location on the first floor in the retail arcade. Additional retail and restaurants should soon be announced. Future plans call for a hotel in the upper floors of the station, although details have not been released yet.

The Station is part of a larger Michigan Central campus including the neighboring Book Depository, now Newlab, and the Factory, at Michigan and Rosa Parks Boulevard, where the Model e team has been working. About 1,000 Ford employees are expected to work between these three buildings by the end of the year, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Michigan Central Station reopened in June after a six year restoration by Ford. Nearly 170,000 people have toured the station since. Guided tours are now available by reservation.
