78 new apartments are now open right in the shadow of Michigan Central Station. The Brooke on Bagley officially opened this week, right in between Corktown and Southwest Detroit.
The $23 million project was led by Woodborn Partners and is part of the Strategic Neighborhood Fund, which invests in improvements in neighborhoods around Detroit. The development also received funding through the Ebiara Fund, which assists Black developers in the city. Funding also came through Capital Impact Partners, the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., the Impact Developer’s Fund through TruFund, the Ford Foundation and Morgan Stanley.
“We are excited to expand on our investment in the city and honored to join the amazing neighborhood that is Hubbard Richard,” said Woodborn Partners CEO & President Clifford Brown. “We are grateful to all of our partners who have made this happen and look forward to a bright future.”
16 of the 78 units are for those making up to 80 percent area median income (AMI). The Brooke has 38 one-bedroom, three two-bedroom and 37 studio apartments. Amenities include 24-hour emergency maintenance, a fitness center, and a dog park. The two-tiered outdoor space and the indoor lounge will also be open to the community for special events. The development also includes retail space.
Bright colors inside the building reflect the southwest Detroit culture and community.
Gensler Detroit led the design of the development.
The Brooke sits at 2420 Bagley, across from Honeybee Market right next to the Southwest Greenway. Residents started moving in last month.
A look at their leasing site has studios starting at $1,344 per month, one-bedrooms ranging from $1,366 to $1,950 per month, and two-bedrooms at $2,400 per month.
