Construction started earlier this week on an $8.2 million project to revitalize the East Warren corridor. The aim is to make streets safer for residents and friendlier for businesses. The project is part of the city's Strategic Neighborhood Fund.
The construction will take place between 3 Mile and Cadieux. Improvements include resurfacing of the road and sidewalks, clearer crosswalks and bike lanes, more visible and enhanced transit stops, pedestrian islands, a new parking plaza on Courville Street, and on-street parking. We've seen similar streetscaping projects around the city, including Kercheval in West Village and Livernois in the Live6 area.
The parking plaza at Courville will help alleviate street parking and make it easier to visit local businesses. It will also be used to host public events.
This is the first of three streetscaping projects to start this summer. We can see similar projects starting soon on West Warren in Warrendale/Cody Rouge and on Rosa Parks Boulevard Atkinson and West Grand Boulevard. We can expect better lighting, sidewalk improvements, and better transit stops in both of these locations.
The East Warren streetscape project should be completed by May 2023.
